Course Description: AP Physics 1 (Standley Lake High School)
Following the College Board's suggested curriculum designed to parallel college-level Physics courses, AP Physics 1 is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course that explores topics such as Newtonian mechanics (including rotational motion); work, energy, and power; mechanical waves and sound; and introductory, simple circuits. Through inquiry based learning, students will develop scientific critical thinking and reasoning skills. Designed by the College Board to parallel college-level physics courses that provide a systematic introduction to the main principles of physics and emphasize high level conceptual and mathematical problem solving without calculus. Course content includes kinematics, forces, energy and momentum conservation, rotational motion, waves and sound, electrostatics and circuits. This course will be taught concurrently with AP PHYSICS C (Mechanics) and will require the ability to complete some independent work in class and mandatory attendance of a minimum of 12 hours of sessions outside of class-time.
This course can earn 5 credits in AP Physics 1: Algebra-Based at Advanced Placement (AP) Program.
