Course Description: AP World History: Modern (Jefferson Junior/Senior High School)
Following the College Board's suggested curriculum designed to parallel college-level World History courses, AP World History examines world history from 1200 BCE to the present with the aim of helping students develop a greater understanding of the evolution of global processes and contracts and how different human societies have interacted. This course highlights the nature of continuity and change over time in an international context and explores cause and effect relationships. The course provides five themes that students explore throughout the course in order to make connections among historical developments in different times and places: interaction between humans and the environment; development and interaction of cultures; state building, expansion, and conflict; creation, expansion, and interaction of economic systems; and development and transformation of social structures. A strong work ethic and a firm commitment to academic honesty is necessary for success in this class.
