Course Description: AP Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism (Conifer Senior High School)
AP Physics C courses are more intensive and analytical than the AP Physics 1 course. Most colleges will award 4 or 5 credit hours for an engineering physics course which is calculus based if a student scores a 4 or a 5 on the AP exam for this course. Some schools will even give these credit hours for scoring a 3 on the AP exam. This course is designed for students who wish to enter a competitive program at the university level such as engineering, medicine, nursing, veterinary medicine, or research science. Topics covered in Electricity and Magnetism encompasses the following content areas: electrostatics, conductors, capacitors and dielectrics, electric circuits, magnetic fields, and electromagnetism. All of these are taught through a variety of activities including guided inquiry, laboratory assignments, demonstrations, practice problems, lectures, quizzes, and the final exam. The curriculum of A.P. Physics C requires the use of some calculus as the knowledge and application of derivatives and integrals will be used throughout the school year.
