Course Description: AP Calculus AB (Columbine High School)
This course follows the College Board's suggested curriculum designed to parallel college-level calculus courses. AP Calculus AB provides students with an intuitive understanding of the concepts of calculus and experience with its methods and applications. This course introduces calculus and includes the following topics: elementary functions; properties of functions and their graphs; limits and continuity; differential calculus(including definition of the derivative, derivative formulas, theorems about derivatives, geometric applications, optimization problems, and rate-of change problems); and integral calculus (including anti-derivatives, the definite integral and application of integrals). A graphing calculator is required for this course. In addition, students are responsible for purchasing the textbook for this class. A main focus of this class it to prepare students for the AP exam in early May. The rigor of this class is far above that of a General Calculus class and students should be prepared for a heavy work load , a fast pace and to spend a significant amount of time outside of class studying the concepts presented.
